Student Ensembles

Extracurricular ensembles provide students with a deeper musical experience while fostering teamwork, leadership, and community. Some ensembles exist as part of district-wide programs to ensure equal opportunities across campuses, others fulfill staff-sponsored club requirements, and some were created simply to offer unique enrichment opportunities. Over the years, I have directed a variety of ensembles, including choirs for grades 3-5 and 4-5, percussion ensembles, a marimba band, and a beginning orchestra for 5th graders.

As a percussionist, I have always enjoyed creating and directing rhythm-based ensembles, blending movement, coordination, and collaboration in dynamic ways. One particularly impactful percussion ensemble was structured around peer mentorship and student leadership, strengthening not only musical skills but also relationships, accountability, and community support among members. My role as an orchestra director also extended into a district-wide leadership position, where I oversaw programs at twelve schools, coordinated curriculum adoption, supported new orchestra teachers, and organized a culminating concert.

Currently, I lead a 4th and 5th grade marimba band, where students experience the joy of layered ensemble playing and rhythmic precision. No matter the ensemble, my goal remains the same—to provide engaging, high-quality musical experiences that inspire growth, confidence, and a lifelong love for making music.
