Community Involvement

Being a teacher is not confined to the four walls of my classroom. I take pride in extending the concept of a classroom to the greater community inviting guest artists and ensembles to campus, welcoming family members to actively participate in events such as Family Folk Dance night and "A Very SPECIALS Night", and organizing field trips to local performances.

Serving on PTA has been a wonderful opportunity as it not only connects me directly with families and deepens relationships, but allows me the platform to advocate for our teachers and be a bridge in establishing a comprehensive school community. I have served for 5 years on executive boards in various roles including Secretary, Vice President, and Teacher Liaison. In this role, I have organized events including as Winter Craft Night, Bingo Night, and Field Day.

In 2019, I joined the OMEA District 12 board as the elementary representative to serve the music education community of Eugene/Springfield and surrounding areas. This role has involved increasing vertical collaboration between academic tiers, facilitating annual professional development workshops, and enhancing communication and available resources.

As part of my commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive school environment, I serve on our school's DEI committee and strategic planning teams. I’ve led initiatives to celebrate cultural months across elementary special subjects, collaborated with our library staff to expand our collection of diverse literature, and sought professional development opportunities to strengthen our team’s understanding of DEI principles.
